Leo Messi is counting down the hours until he lifts the Ballon d’Or once again. Barring a major surprise, the Argentine star will earn his sixth Ballon d’Or this Monday.
After four years without winning the trophy, Messi is highly likely to win the 2019 Ballon d’Or after a fantastic calendar year.
One of world football’s best ever players is expected to win his sixth, something which would show once again his greatness.
The first time he won it was 2009 and he repeated the feat in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015. Cristiano Ronaldo won it in 2016 and 2017 before Luka Modric broke the dominance of the big two in 2018.
Unless there is a surprise, the ’10’ for Barca and Argentina will win a prize which the footballing world do not seem to question. You just have to see his exhibitions on the football pitch.
Prior to the Ballon D’or, Leo gave yet another masterclass. Atletico were Messi’s victims once again after the Argentine combined brilliantly with Luis Suarez to score a late winner.
The Argentine once again showed some brilliance to stun the Wanda and make clear to the world why he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.
An umbrella was thrown at him during the celebration, but the crowd could not take Leo’s smile off his face. He upload a very eyecatching image together with his teammate and friend Luis Suarez.
Despite the fact that rumours of him winning the trophy were leaked, Messi will have to fight with Van Dijk, the only real candidate who can put his victory in doubt.
After training on Monday, the Argentine will travel to Paris with a travelling party led by Josep Maria Bartomeu. Ter Stegen, Griezmann and De Jong will also travel.
